- This blog post is dedicated to all those who made my birthday a memorable one!
"It is called as "Happy" Birthday because its our duty, to make you happy on that day." I remember these words of my colleague, DeepShikha who said this on my Birthday, last year. It was just a week before of my Birthday, DeepShikha - my team lead, had relocated in Gurgaon, which is her native. In first few days of my professional life, she was the one who had stood as a role model for me and had become close, professionally as well as personally. I had pinged her on my birthday in chat, and told, "It was good if you were here today." Suddenly she asked "Is it your B'day today?" I said "Yes Deep, I need your well wishes.." She wished me right there in the chat and by the evening there was a gift on my table from DeepShikha - which was a big surprise to me. Being so far, she had arranged a gift for me by evening. I felt as if asking for a gift by telling that its my birthday and getting it, though I did not really mean it. However, my eyes were sparkling when receiving that surprise gift. I again pinged her and told what I felt. She made the above statement, and I thanked for making my B'day a "Happy Birthday"!
Its an year now and again the day had come. Last day of the last month was special one for me. But every plan which I was trying to make for the day was not working out for some or the other reason. One of my roommates and another best friend were going out of Bangalore. Though my another room mate was in Bangalore, it was not possible for her to be with me, on the midnight of my B'day. So, the previous day of my B'day, I was quite sad not only because I will be alone that night, but also for not having any plan for the next day.
But in life, nothing goes according the way we think. Exactly at 12.00AM my roommate VishnuPriya called on my mobile, to wish me. Before disconnecting the call, she left a bunch of exclamatory marks on my face by saying, "I will message you now as soon as I disconnect the phone. Please read that and .... !!" Though I insisted her to tell what the matter is, she did not utter a word except a smile on her face, which only I felt. The next minute I got an sms from her, which read "Now start searching in between your books". As a Birthday girl, I thought she would have kept a gift for me there. But nothing was I able to find there :( When I again searched there with a great concentration, I could find a cover which had a beautiful greeting card and a heart touching letter in it. After all those lines which said how special am I to her, at the end it was written "There is another sweet little friend for this card... For that you have to search in your cupboard. Its so sweet like you. Your next clue will be with that sweet little friend!!"
This is how the "Birthday Treasure Hunt" game started. And my dear friend had done a master plan for the game and made me sit and search for the gifts in midnight, without even being present in the scene. It was a pleasant experience of cracking the clue, guessing the place and tracing the gifts :) I wonder about her confidence of hiding the gifts inside my cupboard with the belief that me not seeing it till midnight. However, I made her confidence to come true. When I searched my cupboard, I got a cute beautiful angel as my gift with a clue for the second gift. The clue read "I am hiding at back of your sweet parents because I am so sweeeeet!" When I took the photo frame which has my parent's photo, in my hand, I found a cup-cake and a cadbury chocolate behind it!
Oh my God! I was falling into the well of surprises. The chit with next clue present with cake and chocolate read "I am in a well... Please go the next room.." Yes! now I guessed that the next gift must be in the bucket which is there in the other room. But I did not want to spoil the deep sleep of my friend in the other room, just because the day was special for me. So I sent an sms to my roommate asking whether the game can be continued on next day morning. She replied, the friend in the next room is supposed to open the door on my knock! Though I was not willing, I went and knocked the door with a soft bang. But the room door did not open. So it was finally decided to continue the game next morning. My guess went right. I got the gift next morning.
Similar way I got all five gifts playing treasure hunt game(My roommate had to help me for the last gift, next morning when she was back to room:) ) Unknowingly tears of happiness rolled down from my eyes at the end of the game while I was sitting in front of bunch of gifts and my dear roommate. I told her, "Your idea can be patented!"
The story of surprises did not end there. It was decided that, my lunch treat on that afternoon to two of them - i.e my room mate VishnuPriya and to the friend of other room Mayura. When we were on the way to Restaurant, Mayura escaped saying that she has to go to her friend's home near by to give there something. I did not doubt for any of that matter as Mayura goes to her friend's home often. She joined us in the Restaurant after 5-10 min of we reaching there, as she had assured before. After we placed the order, a waiter came and asked something with Mayura which I really did not understand. There was an anger mixed smile, present in both of my friends' faces but Mayura replied him saying a "yes". When I asked Mayura about what he was asking for, she said "he was asking whether to bring starters at the begining!" I was surprised on her statement as it was not a question which a supplier would ask for. However, as I wanted to wash my hands, I got up and went to wash room, without thinking much about what happened. When I returned to table, there was a delicious cake on which "Happy Birthday to Divya" was written!! Only at that moment, I was able to predict the real meaning behind all incidents which took place few minutes ago.
Well, this was my "Happy-Birthday" story. It was not only my roommates, but also many friends of school days, college days, colleagues, relatives and many more who were the co-passengers in my journey of life at different times- made it a memorable day. It was very nice to talk to so many near and dear ones on the same day.
All made it a "HAPPY" birthday. For sure, it is not the the value or number of gifts what one receives, bring the happiness; But its all about getting to know that how special we are to our near and dear ones - makes it a "Happy Birthday"
So friends, All I can say is....
Thanks would be less if I say

ReplyDeleteDear Yashu,
ReplyDeleteThanks for your encouraging words.
